Understanding Public and Money
It's a battle of seriously mediocre teams. The Cubs have scored 15 runs over their last seven games, and they're 5-15 in their last 20 road games. The Angels are in a 3-7 skid but they do rank seventh in scoring at home (4.86 runs per game) and should benefit from the off day following a seven-game trip. With the pitching matchup about even, I'll back the rested home team.
I meant to fade the Cubs on the site last night in San Diego but forgot -- thankfully did play it personally as the Cubbies fell to 11-17 away and 5-15 in their past 20 on the road. Their offense badly misses the injured Cody Bellinger. That Chicago played last night and Los Angeles didn't is obviously a minor advantage for the Angels, who also might welcome back Anthony Rendon from the injured list tonight. It's Cubs youngster Hayden Wesneski (2-2, 4.81) on the mound, and he has a 7.41 ERA in 17 innings this year vs. the AL. I don't really separate the leagues any longer with the universal DH but simply providing that information.
